Mohair Magic: Transform Your Projects with Color and Elegance

In our previous post, Why You Should Knit and Crochet with Kid Mohair Silk (and Feel Like a Fancy Yarn Snob While Doing It), we explored the luxurious qualities and versatility of this

Angora goat-derived fibre. Now, it’s time to focus on its application! In this post, we’re showcasing some stunning finished projects that highlight the magic of our kid mohair silk lace. These FOs (finished objects) demonstrate why this fluffy fibre shines when paired with another yarn—in this case, our irresistibly squishy super wash merino fingering.

Majsan Hat - pattern by The Weststrand Sisters
Majsan Hat by The Weststrand Sisters

The Majsan Hat, designed by Swedish duo The Weststrand Sisters, is knit in the round with a wide brim and features an intricate all-over flower pattern created with stranded knitting. Pictured on the left is a stunning version of the hat, knit by maker and Ravelution community member Sandie Scott. For her beautiful rendition, Sandie paired our kid mohair silk lace with Merino superwash fingering in Bordeaux for the main colour, and combined kid mohair silk lace with Merino superwash fingering in Blue Opal for a striking contrast. I love how the halo of the mohair adds a dreamy quality to this project, and how the luster of the fibre gives it a subtle elegant glow.

Sandie also made the Better Together Mittens by Norwegian knitwear designer Sofie HÃ¥gensen of Strikkesoffe. These super cozy mittens were knit-up by pairing our kid mohair silk and super wash merino fingering in Bordeaux. It might be feather light, but mohair is excellent at trapping heat. In the words of the designer, hikes are better with mittens and mittens are better with mohair, and we couldn't agree more!

You can find Sandie on ravelry at Charspotten, as well as more pictures of her beautiful makes. Thank you so much or sharing Sandie!!

In a nutshell, mohair’s ability to absorb dye results in rich, multidimensional colours, making it an excellent choice for hand-dyed yarns. When paired with fibres like silk or wool, Mohair not only enhances the warmth and softness of your garment but also boosts its strength and durability. This luxurious blend provides structure while allowing mohair’s signature halo to shine, creating a perfect balance of beauty and practicality. Explore the possibilities with our mohair and share your own stunning projects with us—we’d love to celebrate your creativity!
